Hey guys,

Well i will give you an update and on whats happeneing with my LUV. Got teh old motor out of it and bought a 283 for it and mated it up with a turbo 350 tranny. So far all is well almost ready to go in...except for a few questions i need answered before i get myself into this mess.......lol. Ok, anyways...i can't decide what i should do for an alernator...should i build a bractket for the old Izusu alt. or should i figure out how to wire the existing one off the 283?? Next.... im planing on running and electric fan on front of the radiator.shold i still keep the motor fan too still for extra flow...it will take some modificating but i can live with that....it beats heating problems! Now jsut an idea i was working on....what about a dual radiator system...like one in front of the other....would that not get some extreme cooling action or what??? An input on this stuff is greatly appreciated guys! Thanks!

My 2 cents.

The LUV alternator is barely adequate. Use the 283 alternator at the minimum. You can also go for a GM one wire unit or something aftermarket. If your going to run an electric fan this is a must.

One of the challenges on the LUV V8 conversion is the space up front. I did have both electric and manual fans on my truck for some time and it worked well. However, in order to fit both your going to probably be trimming the back of your grill to clean the electric fan. Using both is a tight fit.

Running either electric or manual with a large radiator is a comfortable fit. If you go with a manual, spend the time to make a fan shroud. It will make all the difference.

Running two radiators is simply out of the question without some major work or without setting the motor back into the firewall.

Thanks for your input..i guess you should know one thing about this LUV conversion....it doesn't have to be pretty jsut functionable and fairly reliable. So it doesn't matter if i have to remove the grill or something to house some "extra" stuff...i ain't going for looks here. Ok now how does A chevy alternator wire up exactly to the same existing wires that the LUV had running to the Izusu alt.??? Theres a bit different in wiring...what i was hoping to avoid was this wiring dilema by using the 1.8 L alternator........hey I got an idea....since were talkign dual rads...how about dual alternaotrs!!!! lol just kidding. Ohya the dual rad thing was jsut a crazy idea i came up with...i really don't want heating troubles..but don't want to spend money ont eh already expensive conversion. Jsut looking for cheap gimmicks i guess since i got amillion radiators layign around....

If your going with the older GM Delcotron charging system, i can send you wiring diagrams and detailed directions on how to do it. It's much more simpler to use the GM setup. You remove all of the old alternator wiring and tie in three wires and your good to go. The stock charging system is lame compared to the GM system and running an electric fan will need extra juice. Send me an e-mail and i will send you the info.
