I have a rearend from an 84 V6 camaro. I looks like a 10 bolt. I was thinking about using it for now to back my 350 until I can have a 9" narrowed. It looks like it is already close to the right length. Do you think it will hold up alright, or am I just wasting my time?
Thanks
Daniel

It should hold up long enough till you get the 9" setup. But what about the driveshaft? Do you have a cheap one to use for the 10 bolt? Will it be long enough to modify the shaft to a Ford yoke? If it's too short, you'll need to get another driveshaft( more money spent). Also, getting the pinion angle correct with either differential is crucial. The pinion angle and the driveline angle must parallel to within + or - 3 degrees. The axle pads will need to be placed correctly (for pinion angle, width from leaf spring to leaf spring and 2" wide pads to sit on the leaf spring).Thats a good chunk of time and money spent on something that is temporary. Brake lines are not much of a problem though. You'll need to mate the metric setup to s.a.e. anyway and since the 10 bolt is wider that whats planned, you'll just shorted them to the Ford unit. If it's for the street, will you be running an e-brake?

I'm going to try and run the e-brake to the front brakes if possible to help with power-braking (not that it will be a problem.) No power-braking though until I get the 9". I have a big pile of varous diameter and length driveshafts to work with. The 10 bolt in setup for coil springs, so I know I will have to change that over to leafs. I have a friend who is a machinest and he can weld new spring pads on it and stuff. The big thing is whether or not is too wide. If it is, then I'll just baby the stock luv rear end until I can narrow a 9. I don't want to spend too much time and money on a 10 bolt. Also I was thinking that the luv rear end would be better for now because it is lower geared than the 10 bolt. This would help because I also need a stall converter but can't afford one right now. I am just trying to the truck on the road. I need like a 2200 stall. I'm running a TH400 with a 292 degree, .490 lift cam. Comp cams recommends a 2200 stall if running higher gears. SO, the rear end will help with that until I can get a stall also.

It's probably a good idea to go with the stock axle. It will do ok if you dont throw down hard on it. It's already there, you have plenty of driveshafts to work with, pinion angle is pretty close for now, and it fits the truck. You can concentrate on the Ford setup. The stock 4.56 gears will give you a good indication of what ratio you want to settle with.
