 Post subject: 72 Transmission?

I was wondering if the transmission from a 75 Luv would fit into my 72 Luv. Theres probably already a thread just wanted to ask for a quick answer.

yes . ? the clutch is diffrent in the 72. i had a 74. now its in the shop needs a new home. lol

He's right, and it doesn't. '72 is 1" 10 spline clutch set, 73-up are something different. So if you try to swap it get the clutch set too. I hope the 75 pressure plate will bolt up to the 72 flywheel, I've never really checked if they are different.

My interchange manual lists the 72 flywheel as '4 bolt' and a different part number than the 75 which is '6 bolt,' but looks to be referring to the bolts on the crankshaft. I.E. you can't put a 75 flywheel on a 72 crank.

My parts list shows part number 94020533 for the 72 clutch cover and 94203354 for the 75 clutch cover. So they may be different as well.

This is why I'm being particularly careful not to kill my 72 trans, I'm afraid I'll need to get another 72 trans and while they're out there, it doesn't look easy (on paper anyway) to put a later trans in a 72 truck. Ah, the joys of owning a 72.
