I am looking at buying an '86 Trooper that runs well and dropping the motor and tranny/transfer case directly into my '79 4x4. It has a 2.3L engine with the cable clutch. I would have all the driveline, axle parts, etc. at my disposal because I would have the whole trooper to part out. Has anybody done this? Does anybody know if my Weber 32/36 would work with that engine? Should I re-jet it to a larger size? If so, what works best?

From reading all the posts I could find, it looks like I will need to shorten the rear drive line between 5 and 6.5 inches, the motor mounts will match, will need to cut a hole for the 4x4 shifter, will need to cut out the rear crossbar that the tranny mounts to and add new custom mounts using the Trooper bracket, will need a new bracket for the parking brake, and will need to use the Trooper front driveline. Anything I left out or any pointers on the wiring?
Thanks!

Looks like you have done your home work quite well .If you have the Trooper then get the power steering asy. off of it for your truck ,also get the upper control arms as the will fit and get the rotors. The front diff.and the rear axle will fit but the are 4.56 gears.

You will have to relocate the fuel/brake lines where the T-case goes just bend as necessary. On my truck i cut the e-brake part of the X member and welded it to a piece of 3X6 angle and mount it to the T-case.This is the same angle i used to make the mount brackets for the modified Trooper X-member.

Also if you want to lift your truck the upper control arms with 1/4" spacers and using the rear springs to rebuild yours and it will set level and clear 30" tires. I will get pics on the stance and upper arms soon.I cut my rear drive line 5 3/4"

Awesome, thanks for the help! Would like to see your pics. I am going to pick up the trooper tomorrow. If the wheelbase is the same, I may just swap my cab and bed over to the trooper frame and everything. Then I would have the whole powertrain and brake system without much work. Seems like working on it from above would be nice. Could replace the rear main seal once the Trooper body is off so that never leaks. Gonna spend some time checking out how big of a deal it would be beforehand of course. Looks like one or two people on here have done that, but not many details or pics that still work.
