Hello,

I was checking the fitment of the crossmember for an MUA5 transmission in my 1979 4x4 LUV truck, and it seems like I would have to cut the thing in half to clear the muffler, which hangs low under the truck.

What have you guys done to sidestep this muffler issue? Did you create a custom crossmember with a hole for the muffler?

Also, it may look like I might have to cut nothes in the crossmember to clear the torsion bars, but maybe not. This is looking like it is oing to be a lot of work, but when I am able to do it, I think I will do it.

Thanks!

No mods should be necessary to fit the 5speed. The 5speed is the same shape/size as a 4speed.

It does have a license plate so technically it is a street truck, that sets off car alarms and makes kids cry. lol

Actually... Check this one out: The transmission is a M75? I was looking in a junkyard the other day and I noticed there was a tranny just like the one in my LUV in the Trooper, but there was also another type also in the Trooper... The transmission I have is a REALLY beefy unit, the Xfer case is easily 3 times as thick as the one in my truck which looks like an afterthought almost..

Anyone know what transmission I have?

You would have to cut the crossmember clean out of the Luv to get a 5 speed 4x4 box in. I would think the Muffler would be the least of your problems.

The 4x4 5 speed (be it MSG or MUA) is a vastly different box to the 4 speed MSG 4x4 box that would be in a luv.

As with the 2x4 gearboxes, the MUA 5 should swap for the MSG 5 speed but i would say that the yolk plate for the transfer case end front drive shaft would be different for a larger universal joint.
