I have a vibration and think its coming from the torque converter or TH350.
Since the cross member doesnt come out, can you pull just the trans in a Luv,
or do you have to pull the motor & trans.
Thanks

you can pull just the trans in a LUV. I've done it many many many times. Its hard to do since the xmember doesnt come out but i am here to tell you it can be done!!!. Unfortunately I can't really explain how. lol. the best that I can describe is that you need to remove the tranny adapter and slide the tranny back as far as you can on top of the x-member. then try to get the converter off. if you cant then tilt the front of the tranny down a little and remove the converter. from this point on its going to take some twisting and turning and tilting but it should drop out of there... hopefully not onto you. depending on what type of exhaust you have you may need to loosen or remove that too.

as far as the vibration... did it just start up or has it always had a vibration? have you checked your driveshaft and U-Joints yet? is it at all RPM or just at higher RPM? please describe as much details of it as possible.

I've only had the Luv for about 3 weeks, and its done it since the day I got it.
I dont think I'll pull it, unless I have to, I'll just wait till I get the 383 & new trans
ready to go in. It should make it, its not getting any worse.
Ok it vibrates at around 1400rpm in park or while driving, but its much more
noticeable while driving and especially while accelerating. The engine looks
fine (but has solid motor mounts), so I looked under the truck and can see the
converter wobbling a bit. I checked the bolts and theyre good. So my guess is
its the converter or input shaft/trans. The vibration is also noticeable around
1800-2000rpm, it actually feels like a miss/dead cylinder when accelerating,
but its not, the engine runs ok for a stock 350. I'm not too worried about it,
I just cruise it and am workin on gettin all the small things worked out on it,
the list just keeps gettin longer!
Thanks for the help

Chevy have one advantage over a ford. You can unbolt the converter and push it all the way back in the transmission and it can be started. sometimes it will rub on the snout that goes in the back of the crank so spray the snout with a little WD40 and crank it up to see if it goes away. Most Fords have studs and you cant do this but it works on GM's. From my experiance I wouild say it is probably coming from somewhere else but this will save a bunch of work.

My 93 Z28 has a bad vibe from 90-120mph. i looked on line and apparently this is a factory recall. They didnt balance the driveshaft in the factory correctly. It sucks when i want to cruise at 90 because it feels like my car is going to pitch the driveshaft. I hear that if i take it in on the recall they will replace it with an 1LE aluminum driveshaft. I really need to do that. Anyway... have you checked your harmonic balancer or your fan? Does it have a clutch fan? I've seen those go bad before and cause a terrible vibration. All converters look like they wobble a little. may want to check the flex plate and converter and make sure they didnt throw a weight off.

Most high speed vibration are caused by wheel/tire or drive shaft inbalance.
I can feel mine at low rpm/speed.
The balancer is real steady, and I have a elec. fan. I do need to check if the
flywheel has the weight on it, and I've thought about unbolting the converter
to see if its in the motor, but I dont think it is. Its got solid mounts and its
not too bad when you rev it in park, but it shakes when accelarating slowly
around 1400rpm. Which makes me think its the converter, since it shake
more when accelarating (with a load on it).

but ha said it`s doing it in park too. do like rat n luv suggested loosen up the converter and slide it back then start it. the flex plate might be broke. i`ve seen quite a few brake around the bolt holes.
