Header wrap is beneficial.
Stock LUV radiator with a SBC, not enough area and volume to dissapate the heat as needed.
The Aluminum version that was in mine didnt cool enough as I liked, although it worked.

I pulled the electric , 16 " Spal , and put a 17" flex fan with no shroud . Temperature problems are gone . I will have to put the 180 stat back in to get it to show up on the gauge now . I have built a shroud , but have not installed it yet .

i have a becool aluminum rad on mine and it never gets over 160. previously i was running a s-10 aluminum rad for a 4.3 i never had problems but it had plastic tanks and they began to leak and i got the becool rad cheaper than a replacement s-10 rad was.do you still have fenderwells in yours they hold in alot of air if you have thing mounted on them maybe you could just cut the lower halves off them that would probably be a big help and go to the biggest elec fan you can get and you should have no prob 8)

I recently was able to get the LUV to Georgia with me and i decided to install a 17" flex fan. It's a Summit brand unit that cost me around 20 bucks. I had a hell of a time installing it because of the close fit to the raditor core. It doesn't have a shroud even though it requires one to work efficiently.
Adding the flex fan has made a remarkable improvement! I drove the truck 100 miles round trip in mid 90 degree temps and the motor never climbed above 185 degrees, and this is without a shroud! Keep in mind that im still running the pusher fan.
I plan to fabricate a shroud after i get some other projects cleared. I'll let you know what kind of gain that will produce.

In a prior luv I ran an stock raddy that had been recored to 3 or 4 core if I remember right. had an electric fan in front pushing through and used the original shroud. Didn't have any problems.

My radiator is only 2 core aluminum but is supposed to be the equivalent of a 4 core copper even in the hottest temps with humididt it never gets over 175 even in round robin

I guess i should have made mention that i have a conventional, 4-core radiator. A 2-core aluminum unit i believe, works even more efficient.
I have a replacement radiator support section that i will fit to the truck eventually and add an aluminum radiator. The 4 core unit i have now is so big that the stock hood hinges had to be removed. That's the other reason for the support replacement, getting hood hinges back on the truck with a new, cowl induction hood setup.

I see i probably should have mentioned that under my hood from the fire wall foward is gone I fabbed up a rad support from 1'' square stock and mounted the rad to that I have no fenderwells or stock rad support and the hood is now a lift off but the aluminum rad is way more efficent though
