Hi guy's, Here's what I got, 90 isuzu pickup with a 2.6 automatic overdrive I want to put this trans and motor in a 80 luv will the trans work without the computer? The engine swap is no problem I have all the 2.3 stuff on a running 2.3 know in a 80 4x4 luv and I know the tailshaft of the trans is larger than the 4 speed 4x4 trans. Any help on this would be appreciated.(SMOKEY)

The 4 speed auto is the same size output shaft as the 4x4 box. (which is bigger than the 2x4.)
The auto box is about 2" longer than the 2x4 manual boxes

You need something for the trans.
Havent actually go to sorting it yet. Theres been a bit of talk about what does what. Basically a on off switch for the OD should do the lot.

Are you going to put the 2.3l manifold & fuel pump on the 2.6???

Bob.

Thank's for the info on the trans input shaft, I was thinking it was the same as the 2x4 shaft. I don't know yet what I'am going to put it in but it is going in something, maybe a two wheel luv I can alway's use the driveshaft out of the donor truck just shorten it. The swicth your talking about is that just for the OD, Does it have a lockup converter? And yes I'am going to use the 2.3 intake, 2.3 dist and a electric fuel pump. I might put it in a samurai and use the stock transfer case if I can get the autotrans to work without the computer.

Pretty sure it does have a converter lock.

I think for 85 on or similar the 2x4 manual trans had the larger output shaft too.
You might be able to use a shaft from a later model thats the same wheelbase as your LUV.

You could use the electric pump. But the 2.3L had a mechanical pump under the inlet manifold. The EFi manifolds were setup so they covered over the pushrod and drainback holes in the head. If you use the carb manifold these are exposed. Youve got options, bolt on the mechanical pump with no pushrod just to block off the holes. Use the mechanical pump, but im not sure how it would go sucking thru the electric pump. Or you can plug the pushrod hole and epoxy over the drain back sith some sort of metal glue. if you did it this way you could probably even use one of the Offenhauser manifolds.

Im not sure how you would go with the kickdown cable for the autotrans. ive never seen one on a carb motor.

Cheers, Bob.
