Thinking about building a G200. What book/manual has the required specs (cylinder bore size, bearing clearances, ect) in it for this engine? Hayens has a book for the Trooper/Pup, is this the one?

Best to get a factory Isuzu book if you can, ive found that the aftermarket general books like the Haynes dont tell you more than they tell you.

One for an Impulse with the G200Z EFI motor would probably be the easiest/best.
Unless you can find an early Trooper book. Did the US market get pickups with the G200Z motor??? They were pertty common down here where as the G180Z is the least common motor.

Thanks Bob

I have a factory manual for the Luv, but it does not cover the G200.

I might add that a 80's Isuzu chilton's book wouldnt be bad, i found ALOT of stuff about Isuzu engines looking in one, and it would help for trannys, dist.'s, EFI, manifolds, wiring, you could probably using the LUV book, and this manual, completely tear apart you truck and put it back together... what im ai talking about i did tear apart my truck and put it back together, i even rebuilt the wiring harness... It's not bad just takes pacience and you can make one of there with the stock engine a real screamer...

Yeah, I went ahead and picked up the Trouper manual. Between it and the Series 9 manual, should be able to do ok. Took the engine apart and it doesn't look too bad. Rod bearings were scored a good bit, mains a little. Had the crank turned and got new bearings. Cylinder bores are close to stock diameter, so , thought I would just do a hone and new rings. Not sure whats up, but with the oil rings installed on the pistons, the fit is so tight, I can bearly move the piston in the bores. Ring gaps, for the oil rings are 0.040 . Will have to think about that for a while.....

unfortunately it counds like you might have too get the cylinders bored out  if thaats even unfortunate, but it might not hurt to get them to move a bit easier it sounds like you might end up hurting something if they are too tight right?? and good luck with you engine, it woulds like a good combo between the two manuals... do yuo have a 4x4???

I'd go with the G200 out of a trooper. The troopers are easier to find (well at least where I live). I'd check the Haynes website, I bet you can still get them there. Also used ones should be on Ebay too.

If you look around, you should be able to find a factory high performance Impulse 1.9 G200z engine. They come stock with a beefier cam, taller pistons, and stiffer valve springs.

Try looking on here:

Another thing you could do is take the rings off the piston and put them inside the cylinder and see how much they overlap. You may have to gap them to get them to fit right. Be careful cause they break easily.

Its only the oil rings. The compression rings fit fine, and are within the limits of end gap. Oil ring end gap was ok also, but filed them to the upper end of the limit, and they are still tight. With one oil ring installed on the spacer, the tension feels about right.

Called the company that made the piston rings. They were very friendly and helpful. After talking about the problem a while, they overnighted a new set of rings. The new ones looked different. Here's a pic, new oil ring and spacer on the left, old on the right.....

The spacers are different and the oil ring is quite a bit smaller. Installed them and the new compression rings. They had tighter end gaps, than the other compression rings. These things went in, with no problem. That was easy. Only a couple weeks to get the pistons in the block.

Would you share the info on the company you got your rings from? I'm sort of obliquely looking at doing a mild rebuild on the '77 engine I have sitting here. Sounds like you found a pretty decent vendor...

Ended up with a G200, out of an Impulse. Got the rings from Autozone. They were made by Beck Arnley. Never heard of them before, but I guess they make parts for foreign autos.

Ive got heaps of their bits here. Had them sent to me from the US.

Probably a different type of ring for a different type of piston. Wouldnt be too stressed. Youve done the right thing, poking along and lookin about and worked out it wasnt right and actually solved the problem.
