Just wondering if anyone has seen it done, i know it doesnt sound like a standard swap, but I'm thinking if i upgrade my crew cab to a 350, i will have the spare votec v6 with only 67,000 miles.... might as well put it to use. My luv has the stock 4cyl.

Any thoughts or ideas??

Go for it but you will need the complete computer system out of a pickup the same year to make the swap ore convert it over to the basic carb and dist. combo. but i would use the stock computer setup and you would be better off.

The basic swap with a 700R4 would make for a potent little truck and get good fuel economy.

yeah, i have the tranny and all..... was in my s10. So I'll have all the computer , wiring, etc. I guess I'll just have to figure out the headlight\taillights and all that jazz to work on the newer harness.

So nobody has heard of it done or done it yet??

A friend of mine just completed the 4.3l swap in a Jeep. Turned out really well. Painless had the harness that will run the tbi setup. The thing had tons of torque and gets about 22-25 mpgs.

I used to have a '95 Astro. That Vortec 4.3 and Overdrive auto trans. would be nice in a LUV. That van pulled a 5000 lb. boat and trailer for me pretty well.

My '89 S10 Blazer 2dr 2wd has a 4.3 vortec in it with a 700r4 that was all re-done by the previous owner. It gets pretty good gas mileage (about 25-30) and probably would tow a freakin' house on wheels.

If you could possibly get your hands on an old chevy monza V8 rear-end, (since that should fit right under the rear of your Luv), that combination would make one sweet little truck.

There used to be a '77 shortbed stepside running around my town that had the 4.3/700r4/monza rear-end combo (untill the kid that owned it sold it) and it was pretty darn quick.

I had considered doing that to my 4-banger '78 shortbed stepside - but I already had swapped out my stock 4 speed for a newer 5 speed/rear-end combo out of an '86 Isuzu truck, and I found an '86 Impulse 1.9 G200z 4-banger real cheap that bolted right in.

Next up will most likely be a 2.6 with a 2.3 carb intake - since it will drop right in and bolt right up to my 5 speed.

There really isn't any limit to what you can do with these little trucks - just your wallet, your skills, and the amount of time you want to spend tinkering on them.

Good luck with your truck!
