I was just wondering if anyone knew what the width on a Monza rear end or a pontiac Starfire is and if they had 8.5 ring gears??????

i beleive they came with a 7.5 like the vega`s. im not sure about the factory v8 monza though. it may have had an 8.5 those are pretty hard to find. can`t help you on the width.

Hey all, The V-8 monza had a 10 bolt rear(8.5 ring) I think they were 53" wide, not positive. Starfire no clue. Pontiacs are notorious for having some one off kinda running gears. But they were fairly stout most of the time. Hope this helps...

I hear some guys out in texas talk about using an S10 rear end (probably not a good idea for a hot motor) or also a Mustang 8.8" rear.

s-10 rears arent much stronger plus having c-clips is another negative. ask ratn luv about doing 180 on the strip when his s-10 rear let go. im sure it would be fine behind a stock small block i just wouldn`t push it any.

I have a couple friends in the low 9's with a 10 with C-clips in it still but I wouldnt advise that. I like to err on the side of caution when it comes to the rear end. the mustang 8.8 however is pretty durable. They live behind an 11.0 car with no problems and a couple NMCA cars used to run them deep into the 8's with aftermarket parts.

Well my luv has a monza rear end in it it is 49" wide from the inside of the backing plate to the inside of the other backing plate. It has a 7.5" ring gear. Beside the pinion housing is a big boss that the stock monza torqu arm bolted to it was like one big traction bar that ran fromt the rearend up to the tranmision cross member just to the right of the drive line to stop the axel from wrapping up.
