You will want to start by adjusting the vacuum modulator, the kickdown cable should not have a factor in shifting under normal conditions.

Start with an adjustable modulator then then if the trans shifts to early for you at full throttle change the governor to one out of a v-6 trans and it will shift at about 5700-5800 at full throttle.

The cable is for full line pressure at full throttle so you have max pressure to the clutches and band when shifting.

Hope this sheads some light on the subject.

I might sound like an idiot here, but how do you adjust the modulator? Me and my dad have never done one before. Thanks!

Depends on the make of the part, either a small flat blade screwdriver or a allen wrench in the hole where the vac line is.

If your modulator is a adjustable type then turn the screw in one full turn at a time until you get what you want, but beware as you can usually go only 3 turns and some times 4 then it will bottom out, this of course if somebody has not messed with it before.
