I bet that motor weighs a ton. Not to mention the batteries that it would take to run it. That is one way to beat the high gas prices.

That's a big electric motor. What do those things cost?

That reminds me of this old hybrid electric rig. I don't remember where I found the link.. It may have been on this site.

That looks like a 36-38 volt fork lift motor and if it is it will move a 10,000 pound lift truck with a 5,000 pound load with no problem. As for the batterys you are not to far of (a little light ) as the average 5,000 lbs. lift truck battery weighs over 3,000 lbs..But with a trans like this application the batterys could be "only"about 1,000 and maybe as low as 500 depending on how long you want it to run.But it will go like a bat out hell when its done, it would be neat to see it finished though.

My uncle had a luv truck with an electric motor in it. I never saw it but I heard that it had the bed full of batteris and it could still easily spin the wheels. It had so much torque that nobody wanted to drive it because it whiped your neck around so much. I think it would be a fun project, put some super wide wheels on it and a posi too.
