well I was going to do the Zetec motor on my next luv but always thought a special luv ( what they should have done with a LTD luv or GT version ) would be fun to build, my ideas was a cosworth Vega motor.... and guess what i found ? yep a cosworth motor, only about 3500 where made... where it says Vega will be replaced with luv so the cover will say cosworth luv... the good thing is it looks like a very easy swap and will be running a 5 spd behind it...may or may not use the original fuel injection , may go with throttle body injection like in one of the pics below.... so what are your thoughts... i have a few friends in LA that are very stocked about the idea and they want the first ride when its done, figure its only fair since I got the motor from them... this will be a slow project but if you want ill keep it updated from time to time as I do work... would luv to have on the road by end of summer but realistically I bet it will be end of next summer

they are fuel injection throttle bodies … they can be used on new cars for more power or older cars to convert to fuel injection … here if you want some info http://www.twminduction.com/Home/Home-FR.html
,but there are a lot more place to get info also

well all torn down and it looks good so ill have the block and head checked and cleaned... and since it is all apart will add rings and bearings even though they look good also... cant wait to get it in and the 5 spd behind it... looking at about 170 hp when done maybe more with the TBI... looks like a slight mod to the cosy motor mounts and ill be able to use the luv mounts on the block...

I say why not just go with a pair of good old webers????

A pair of 40's or even 45's, would be cheaper and they do work just as well if you have them tuned right.

All you need then is a HEI setup to suit the motor.

Saves on ECU and wiring loom cost. Not to mention dyno time to tune it right. Id hate for you to have a big lean out and lunch it.

I dont know about Gm TBI but in my experiences with any TBI it would seem that it is greatly inferior to MPI due to the carb style manifold you would have to use, why not stick with the stock style or even the multiple carb set-up if you plan on going efi anyway that is, twin carbs would be cool,, but didnt you have cold start problems with that before on your G motor? you would know better than I would... but at anyrate nice find, and that was what they put in all the vegas or was it jsut an oprion? and is the motor 16v like the newer motors or is it like the G-series DOHC wherwe they only ran 8 valves for some stupid reason?

-Dustin

oh yeah cant wait to see it put together and running...

One mroe thing... I have had this distributor out of a front wheel drive isuzu I-Mark for a while and got the idea as of late to put the guts into my luv remove and get rid of the internal coil, run an external one, and get about the same thing as you would with the G series swap but in my own custom way, the internals seem fairly easy to switch the i-mark mounting plate for the internal parts is a bit larger, but if you were to just shave that down and drill some holes for mounting it shoudl drop right in, and the pick-up on the distributor shaft looks liek it will slide right over the luv's and then there is a lock pin to keep it in place...

Anyway what im getting at is that you should be able to modify the distributor that came with it if it was electronic advance instead of vaccume, and jsut drop those parts in unless your looking at somethign a bit more contemporary like a standalone fuel/spark system...

Just a thought....

yes the carbs have a cold start issue that’s why i wanted to use the tbi like this Image
this is what they put in the cosworth vega... they made about 3500 of them , they where twice the price of a regular vega and only about $600 less then a corvette.. they made them from 75/76 only.. yes it is a 16 valve, vega block with British cosworth head.. the prototypes made as much as 270hp but by the time they hit the states with all the new smog regs it only had about 120hp stock, easy to get the 200hp i want out of it... raise compression add tbi port the head with good exhaust

The more correct term would be quad throttles.

Some of the jap gear has em.

Id still go the webers. Its no fun if its not a little tempremental. lol.
