Sorry it took so long to reply busy weeekend.
I used a 2000 V6 rear end because it is a 28 spline with a 3.42 open diff. Where the earlier are 26 spline and usually a numerically higher rear gear (4.10 , etc). I bought a posi unit off ebay rebuilt for 225.00 free shipping

I got my rear end out of a junkyard for 100.00 and got Mooser axles for 235.00 a set.( I ordered a set of 2000
S10 axles with the luv bolt pattern 6 X 5.5)
But here are the codes for
S10 rears. They are listed in the glove box.
rear axle ratio RPO
GU4=3.08
GU5=3.23
GU6=3.42
GT4=3.73
GT5=4.10
HC4=4.56
G80 - locking differential
but my understanding is that a 2nd gen V6/Auto will have a 3.42 gear but I would verify by the RPO code in the glove box.
