I have a 79 and a 80 my 80 has 205000 miles on it and i want the least amount of down time, so will it work.

The only thing I can think of that might come up would be if the 80 is a 4x4. It would have a different clutch and flywheel than a 79. They put a larger clutch disc on the 80 and later 4x4 trucks. It should still fit with the older parts and just be an upgrade, but something to be aware of. Everything else should be exactly the same.

We put a 79 engine in ex's 80 luv 4x4. Had to change clutch,flywheel, and pan. all else ok.

That is a good point. The 4x4s use a different oil pan, so any time you swap motors between a 2wd and 4wd you need to swap pans.

good luck keeping up with all those pan bolts... the diesels have somewhere b/w 20-30 keeping them on, my little I-6 i had only had about 12...
