What carb? Hitachi? I had one that was blowing black smoke bad and somewhat rough running. There was a pool of gas in the intake manifold after the engine was shut down. Rebuilt the carb using Permatex on the internal gaskets. Same thing again. Pool of gas in the intake manifold. Figured it had an internal leak I couldn't find. A new carb fixed the problem.

Actually that happend to our 81 4x4 we used to have, but it dumped gas into the manifold BEFORE we rebuilt it, the carb had also just been re-built but had been sitting for a year or so, does it try to idle or does it try to rev. itself quickly???
