If you want a good Generator. Get one out of an 84 Izusu Trooper. I think that one is a 50 Watt, which generates more power and you don't have the surges that the old 35W has.

But be careful. You can burn out some schtuff.

Your local NAPA, Advance, AutoZone - Prefer the other two over AutoZone might even have one in stock.

Don't be surprised if the problem is the voltage regulator. A bad one can keep an alternator from charging the battery.

True - you can beat yourself mindlessly over the head with a tire iron and it may not even be the item you need.

For your understanding: Originally vehicles we have driven over the years started with 12 volts direct current. (12VDC) Nowadays vehicles use alternators that produce 12 volts alternating current. (12VAC) But the rectifiers on the collector ring inside the alternator housing change into it into direct current (DC) to charge your battery and run all the electrical equipment. So you see, it just a matter of semantics.

Here's a URL to Advance for an alternator for a Chevy LUV.
