I've got a 79 with factory A/C that has not worked since I owed the truck. When I bought it, both hoses were off the compressor and the wiring was not hooked up. I fixed the wiring long enough to check that the compressor clutch worked and put a dab of some generic A/C oil in there before reattaching the hoses and leaving the wiring unhooked. I would guess that I will need to replace some parts and flush the system (at least to get out whatever wrong kind of oil I stuck in it out) but A/C is not one of my strong points. Maybe if I start on it now, I could have it working by the time summer hits.
I know with 134a kits available it is within reach for a person to do some of this stuff him/herself but I'm not quite sure where to start. Assuming my evap and condenser are leak free and can be cleaned could I replace the questionable compressor or other parts with something from a different rig perhaps? if anyone has some tips or links to good info I'd appreciate it.
