I'm finally getting around to my engine swap. Everything ready to come out but one thing, where is the best place to hook chain to the right side? I will use the smog pump bracket on the left, but where on the other side?

take off the intake and use one of the studs in the rear.

If you are pulling the trans from below first you could also go through one of the mount holes for that. It seems to me that I did something different, but I can't remember what. Take a good look at the block and see if you can't find a large bolt hole down on that side somewhere. I'll take a look here in a while and see if I can remember what I did the last time.

Personally, I'd be a little leary of using just a single stud going into the aluminum head, especially if you are pulling engine and trans as a unit. Besides, it is a lot of trouble to go through to pull the intake just to get a place to hook a chain. Might as well just chain around a couple runners on the intake and pull from there.

i always bolt my chain to the exsaust studs on one side and the intake studs on the other. It handles the weight of the tranny and transfer case just fine as well.

Thanks guys. I figure I can try 3 different ways. Pull #1, pull #2, and put#2. I hoped to have this done a couple weeks ago, but life first and toys second. ( in most cases ) I still have 4x4 running gear I don't need. Some one just come git it..... please.

Cant remember if it did it or not, but I know when we put the sbc/th350 in, I dumped tranifluid all over the ground. So when you disconnect the drive line, zip tie a COUPLE baggies over the tail of the trani!!!!

That is a good tip. They usually won't drip much at all if you just pull the driveline, but tip them up on end pulling the motor/trans together and you'll get a puddle. Even if you drain the fluid out of the trans it still may lose some out the tail.
