is the system contaminated inside??? depends on how bad. you can get a can of ac flush and run thru it with out even pulling it out. you need a special bottle pressure flush it though. just run it thru until all the ac flush coming out is clean. >>>>> if its dirty outside then all you need to do is open up the housing enough? possibly remove it and vacuume all the lint, cat/dog hair, mouse droppings etc. if your still not satisfied you can take it to the car wash and give it a good cleaning. just remember if you get any moisture inside the evaporator you have to get it out. it will contaminate the ac oil and ruin the compressor in no time.
most ac/ parts stores will have flush. i prefer the solvent based stuff rather than the oil based. it makes more of a mess and i think it takes more product to do the job. the bottle is nothing more than a bottle you fill with flush then pressurize with shop air, and spray directly into the components inlet/ outlet with a hose attached to an air blower nozzle.
remember to flush in both directions it tends to break the contamination loose better!
