The frying of points is the result of too hot of a spark. This could be the result of a weak condensor (not holding a charge long enough), too high of voltage (voltage regulator, ballast resistor, wrong coil allowing too high of operating voltage) or just a poor grade of points allowing metal transfer. I put a Mallory Unilite in my LUV, cuz I hate points, and have been happy with it. ($300 US). The transistorized distributor out of the later LUV's works, also, although I've heard stories of their failure over the years.
