Mine is pretty ticked it seems. It sat for a while, but started right up. Idled for a second, then died. The Gen light is on, but I am pretty sure the alt is gone. The truck will run for a minute or two, then just die. It won't idle down, and doesn't sputter. It is almost like someone yanked the coil wire off. After a few senconds, it will start again with some aggressive gas pedal stomping. Run for a minute or two, then die. I drove it down the road and it cratered on me again, and I left it in gear, and floored it. It just wound down. Didn't buck or chug. Nothing. I replaced the fuel pump relay with the same one I got before. There is a clear fuel filter on the truck, and you can see fuel in it. It seems like an electrical problem. Is there a replacement for the coil that has an internal resistor? The external one was so hot I blistered my finger when I touched it. Thanks,
Justin

Sounds a lot like the fuel pump isn't running once you get it started. It probably runs while you are cranking, then doesn't cut over once the motor is spinning. That relay is tied to the alternator, so if you have trouble there that could keep it from getting fuel. You should be able to feel if the pump and tell if it is going once the truck is running. A full carb bowl is 2 minutes plus of just idling, just an FYI.

Awww... shucks.

I have thought about writing a book a couple of times, never thought about having my head frozen to preserve the LUV knowledge I've absorbed. I have to say, I've learned more from this site than from anywhere else. Everybody here has contributed to the Encyclopedia Luvetica in some way or another. :)

i ran into this a while back, if the gen light is on the fuel pump wont run once the motor starts. But it will run when the motor is cranking over.
