 Post subject: clutch master cylinder
PostPosted: Thu Aug 04, 2005 7:38 am
I just bought a clutch master cylinder because the old one was leaking and now I can not get it to adjust. The pushrod does not seem to be long enough to disengage the clutch so I it grinds when going into gear. I have bled the system and it is free of air. Has anyone else had this problem. There is still freeplay when adjusted all the way out. If I take the clevis out of the hole in the pedal arm and put it to the front of the arm, I can get the rod pushed in far enough to get into gear without grinding, however this was just to see if it would work and I cant drive it like this. Anybody know what is wrong. I have done master cylinders before and know what I am doing, but now I am stuck

Sounds to me like there is still air in the system. The clutch system on these things is a bear to get bled properly. Last time I did mine I ended up taking the slave cylinder loose from the motor. Then I unhooked the line going into it. Fluid and air will flow down from the master (make sure its very full) with it open. Let if flow until it runs steady. Then I let the fluid fill the slave cylinder, and when it overflowed I screwed it back onto the hose. It helps to have someone up top watching the fluid level and topping it off for you. Once I got it back together and had no air. Bleeding with the bleeder screw I was getting air back in every time I bled it.
