I would like to remove my fender emblems without breaking anything so I can clean up rust spot in the area of the emblems. How do you go about this ? I had the plastic on the inside of the fender pulled out of the clips and I could get my hand up in there. I didn't feel anything but the sharp ends of the mounting pins. There wasn't any nuts on the ends, isn't there supposed to be or is that just the Mikado emblems ? Anyway, are they just rusted in there, or are they also glued ? What should be my plan of attack so as not to damage the emblems or the fenders ?

loosten the square bow tie part of the emblem with a scraper gentley(there's a bit of adhesive) and take the backside of a spoon and press on the tips of the mounting pins....be very gentle when doing this.......try getting them all loose before you push them all the way out. there's little clips on the pins, but if you try to pull them off you'll just pull the pins right off the emblems.

get some adhesive to glue the bowtie square back on.....i didn't and now i have to listen to them vibrate at 1100-2000 rpm.

Thanks for the tips. I don't have the ones with the bowtie being I have a '79 and two '80's, they have the big square on them. I am guessing the procedure is still the same though. So what was holding me back was some adhesive as I figured and probably a bit of rust on the pins. I guess I should try to spray up the back of the pins with some WD-40 if I can ? Anything would be a help I guess. What kind of adhesive would you recommend using that would be safe and I can get off when I take the emblems off again in the future ? Thanks again.

I think "where's all the luv at" is talking about the 79/80 emblems, under the square is two sided tape and it can be a pain to get loose.

what he said............as for gluing it back down i finaly put a dab of silicone construction caulk behind itr and it stuck great and peels right off when you take em off....as long as you have alright paint.
