is the extra length on a longbed before or after the cab?maybe both,I'm asking cuz my truck is a longbed and I'm wondering if a stepside bed would look too far from the cab

That's why it's called a long wheel base truck...

Roadshow Bob and finalman have it right. The frame is longer between the tranny and the rear axle. The body is longer in the bed from the front edge of the bed to the front of the fenderwell inside the bed. A standard step side would be sitting about a foot or so from the cab. It might be interesting to see someone build a long stepside bed though. Stretch it in the right places and such. It would look sort of like an old classic pickup longbed model. I've never seen it done so you could be a first. ;)

i've seen some full sized '70s Fords that were long bed step sides. They modded a stepsdie bed by building a new center box from plate steel. took the original bed mounts and attached them in the right places and it looked alright.. haven't seen it on a small truck yet though... :?

those old long steps/w the spare on one side are what got me thinking. And I saw some fenders on e-bay the kind with the sharp bodyline right above the wheel opening the top of them seemed kinda like the shape as the rounded part of the luvs body.
