Ok, well sinc I know about nothing on this topic...I'm still asking you guys. The one shop told me it was the vaccum advance (but that guy can't work on it until a week from now), so I took it to another shop and the guy was saying "NO, you carb has a dead spot". He didn't drive it long enough to really learn what the truck is doing. If I mash the peddle...definitely on a hill it just bucks and stutters to high heaven....all the gears. I can roll up to a stop sign and get ready to take off and if I don't give it hell it will die. What gives??? I'm gonna sell soon because I really don't think I've got time to be dealing with it :(

The first thing most of us are going to say is to check for vac leaks. Get some cheap carb cleaner (WD40 also works). Get the truck running at idle, and spray around the base of the carb and at each intake manifold port right at the head. The motor will pick up speed when you spray over a leak. Expect to see a little change around the throttle shaft on the carb, some leak there is common enough, but anything that causes a sharp difference could well be the source of your problems.

Also remove and plug off all the vac lines. You can do it one at a time for a better chance to narrow down which might have a leak, but you might have more than one. The vac advance on the distributor can be disconnected if you suspect it. It would cut acceleration down with it unhooked, but it shouldn't really buck/stumble.

The other thing would be to look at the points. They should be flat, clean, and gapped correctly. If they are way off due to wear/buildup that can cause stumbling, backfiring, sputtering, and all sorts of stuff.
