I have taken out my muffler and put in an "echo chamber" (i put a slightly larger piece of pipe in place of the muffler), and i put a dual outlet resonating tip on. The exhaust sound awesome, in my opinion, however, since doing this, my pickup has no power. I suspect that i need to have a muffler on it, however i want it to still be as loud as possible. Can anyone suggest a type of muffler, or if possible another solution.

thats interesting. I have no input to help you, just a comment. its crazy how proper sizing and air flow are required to maintain power.

Im sure by days end youll get some good input! 8)

I know that sometimes more constrictive exhausts can increase torque.
If you aren't going to run a muffler, you should try smaller pipes, at least for part of your exhaust. That should help out.

if you want something loud go with a cherry bomb.i have a flowmaster and its nothing compared to the cherry bomb.try a shorter exhaust.from all the times i've done mine, the shorter the louder.

Hey 81,
When I put my exaust on I also lost the umph. I'm running a Pacesetter header, around 3' of 2 1/2" flexpipe, and a monza single tip. The key is the right amount of backpressure. I fiddled with mine till I found that if I left a little over an inch of the stock 1 7/8" pipe that was on the entrance of the monza tip it gave it just enough backpressure to give it the zip. Oh and it is PLENTY LOUD! ( My neighbors would love to see me dead) :fist:
Hope this helps...

Dave

I have the Pacesetter also but I went with the Flowmaster 60 series muffler, plenty of noise and still have plenty of the 4 banger zip too

Hell Yeah!! I really only have one neighbor that bitches. She caught me getting out of my LUV the other night and said " You ever even considered putting a muffler on that thing?" I said I DO have a muffler on this thing and have you ever even considered owning a house with walls not covered in aluminum?

My neighbors would bitch but I think my neighbor has outdone me, he owns a '98 V10 Dodge Ram sport and the only thing that is stopping him from straight pipes is his cats.

Ive talked to a handful of dodge v-10 owners and they said that they are not happy with the motor. Its only "wow, you have a v-10!", and it stops there. they get about 6 mpg. that stinks for a new rig. sure, in a viper thats all done up, id take it. not in a work truck. give me the diesel! 8)
