To help out with figuring production numbers how about we post our VIN's here and see how long the run was. I've seen this done on other sites and it worked pretty well as a kind of registry also. Something like this:

Year:
Model (i.e. 2wd/longbed/automatic/automatic):
VIN: CLN?????????? (if this concerns you, just post the last bit which give the build number):

Thanks everyone...
I'll post mine up later today. And I'll be including junkyard trucks just to get more VIN's included.

OK, so what have we figuered out so far? We have 3 80 2x4 trucks listed with the following Vin#`s A high number of 26465 and a low of 02073. So if we subtract 2073 from 26465 we get 24392.

Does this tell us that there was at least 24,392 Luv trucks built in 1980??
And do we have to include 4x4`s in this??

Also, i think we may have got more replys to this post if it had been titled, "Post your VIN`s" or something like that?? What do you think??
And maybe there are not many of us who care about this kind of Luv info?

Ike

Ike,
the 2wd and 4wd have different VIN numbers... CLN vs CRN. But i think this forum is slowly getting some on the numbers of LUV's built each year.. if i get a chance to get the junkyard VIN's and such and throw those in it will only add to what we can figure out...

I'm a little confused....

I thought that the series number was 1 number behind the year model number...I.E. a 1972 truck is a series 1...my 75 is a series 4 etc.

Isn't that right?

72- Series 1
73- Series 2
74- Series 3
75- Series 4
76- Series 5
77- Series 6
78- Series 8
79- Series 9
80- Series 10
81- Series 11
82- Series 12

There is no series 7 and the series numbers don't match the VIN setup wither. Does that make sense??? :?

It's kinda funny how it took 6 years to figure out that the series could be the same as the year.

The new truck I just brought home has a 6 in the vin for series so I guess it's a 77 then?

A VIN# that is on a truck I'm considering as a parts truck is
CRN14A8248187 I can tell it's a 4x4, but I would like to know if there are other facts that interest me before I decide.

with the VIN only... the only real info you could get would be that it is an '80 4x4
