Ok I just got the word from my shop on what the hell is wrong with my truck....and boy do i feel stupid. It turns out i blew the head all those months ago and i thought it was the carb...damn it!!!!!!! how could i be so freaking stupid??????????!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok now one to my real problem,
it's going to run me $75 to have the head milled
what i need to know is how much is a gasket set going to run me?
and also how much are new head bolts going to run me? aparently they're toast and i need new ones (But yet i don't get that, the engine only has about 20,000miles on a rebuild) well if any of you can help me with these, and with advice on how NOT to blow the head again i would be extreamly thankful.
Oh and the shop is quoting some where around $500 for all of the work, (parts labor, all that good stuff, and a few "other" things wrong with the truck that i could getta way with fixing my self)

I think that is bs i can get the whole gasket set for 12 to 15 bucks from some inside recoreses and the bolts are reasonable from like shucks or napa plus if its going to cost 500 then why not buy a perfectly good engine frome me for like 150??? so any way good luck with the guy thats screwin you. btw where did you take it

A local shop in Flag thats been doing really good work for my dad for the last 10 or so years, it may be that my dad over exagerated the price when he told me how much it was going to run, but any way thanks for the info on parts, i'm going to end up doing it my self any way so i guess there's no real need to worry. Also how long after i replace the gasket should i retorq the head bolts? 1000 mi? 1500mi?

I would do it at each interval 1000 miles and then again at 1500 so you can be sure that it is running right by that time.

Or cut the losses in the middle at 1200 and torque them once.

well i got the head off and had it milled, the head bolts turned out to be only $8 a bolt and the head gasket was cheaper too. now all i have to do is get the thing back togather and on the road.
