 Post subject: 1980 will not fire up

I have bought this one and since i did i replaced the starter fuel pump and rebuilt the carb as well as put in new plugs. I get perfect spark threw the wires. gas is spurting in the carb but i have not a clue what it could be..

check compression at each cylinder it may have a bad head or gasket. it will never run with out compresion see under notorious for eating head gaskets

Oh, that's right. That carb has a couple solenoids on it right? Maybe one of them isn't working?

i would check re-check and re-check again the timing. if you are getting fuel, spark and plenty of air, you may not be getting spark at the right time. if you have never had the distributor out, and the previous owner never had it out, then i would see if your timing chain jumped a tooth on the gears. my two pennies worth :wink:. and yes. the original carb has about three solenoids on it, (rubs big vein sticking out of forehead) they are a cause of many headaches and loss of hair :lol:
