39 inches.... I was wondering how wide, I just never asked....

What points is that measured from?

Mine wasn't narrowed. It is just barely wider than stock. I believe it is out of an older Ranchero or Falcon. The wheels should still tuck up under the fenders. It will take greater back spacing on the rims.

The 39" is wheel to wheel total outside width.

FYI- my 9 has about 1.5 " of the round axle housing on the one side, and there is almost none on the other. I had it done in seattle, and EVERYTHING is way too expensive over there. That been said, i still found a guy that had a full shop out of the main city who did all the work for $175. he is a sprint car racer, and was all set up to respline, cut and weld.

I also found another guy to install my clutched locker and new gears. $150. he was all set up too. the key was to find an auto supply store where the guys know everyone in town or in the area.

A fine print note on my 9"- I have a locker with clutches. Basically it performs like a positraction. Anyway, you go through a few weeks of HECK trying to figure out what is rubbing, grinding, or falling apart- especially when turning. Its the plates in the locker. you think your tires are rubbing, or your locator bar is loose and the axle is floating around. Scares the crap out of you. You pull over constantly, stress out completely, until you hear that others have the same thing. FYI.

the narrowest rear end you will find is propbably off a 1957 Ranchero. some other narrow ones are off of a 67-68 Cougar or late 60's mustang. and of course the good ol Lincoln Versaille disk brake one. None of them are perfect with respect to the stock luv rear end fit but those will get you the closest. These days its pretty cheap to have one narrowed down. After market axles are even pretty cheap. If you are on a budget, you can try a 8" rear end off an early mustang or cougar. They will handle a decent amount of HP and are easy to find.
