I have a 1979 Luv with a busted tranny. What years can I pull from when I go out to look for a new transmission. Anyone know of a good place to look in the socal area?

According to my Chilton's manual (published in 1979) all the LUVS have the same transmission from 72-79. The automatic is a TH-200 and the manuals are whatever the hell they are. Of course, being published in 1979, there is no information about the 80-82 models. I don't anything about the 81-82 LUV's and if they changed transmissions or engines or what.

So anyway, as long as it's the 70's body style (72-80) it would be safe to say they have the same transmission. Hope this helps.

On your trans., I know these tucks extemly well, in 1975 they changed the engine and trans. design so 72 -75 has the starter on the left side. 76 and up is on the right. What I used was a 5speed out of a 83 Izuzu pup with the same engine type, this will bolt right in. The only mod. is you might have to cut out the knock out on the right side of the clutch fork (this is clearly outlined) depending on the year you have and if you have a cable or hydrolic clutch its really easy. This trans. is also used in early years of the chev. S-10 its easy to tell because the engine looks exactly the same. Also, some of the S-10's and Isuzu Impulse's use a 2.0 liter motor, this will bolt right in and help get rid of some of the gutlessness, that these trucks are notorious for having.
