This is the last response I got from Chevy on this. Looks like Bob might have the right idea in his post here:

Here's the email I got:
Dear Mr. Brown,
Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate you taking the time to write us in regards to your Chevrolet LUV.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I cannot supply you with the information you requested. There are books and other commercial resources available (such as the Standard Catalog series of books) that may be able to provide the you with overall production numbers for the referenced model years. You may wish to check with your local library to see if they have those resources available.
If any of the website members wish to call in for specific production numbers on their vehicles, we will be happy to assist with those requests. They will need to provide their contact information, vehicle VIN number, the model number, and any RPO codes they wish to receive production numbers on. Note that a breakdown by option may not be available for all model years of the vehicle.
If you are seeking the complete list of options (build sheet), please contact Vintage vehicles at 905-440-7697, they have specification and build sheets available for US sold vehicles going back to 1982 and Canadian vehicles going back to 1946.
If you are looking for a build sheet on an older vehicle, the Oldsmobile History Center*, Corvette Museum*, Buick Club of America*, and Pontiac Historic Services* are possible sources. If you are unable to obtain the build sheet through the above methods then the build sheet is not available.
I would like to remind you there may be a fee for these services.
As far as production figures are concerned, we will be happy to supply production figures related to the your specific vehicle, however, we do not provide figures for use on external websites.
If you can provide us the model number and any specific options codes he wants production figures on (up to 5) for your vehicle, we will be happy to answer that portion of his inquiry. Option codes can be found on the SPID label of the vehicle.
I hope this information can be of use to you.
If you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this message or call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020.
