i have a problem. if you stand on the side ot the motor with the plugs, the second from the front of the truck plug dosent seem to go in all the way. it sometimes goes in a little further than other times but looks to be out further? im nervous that the hole may be stripped out a bit or something. i do think i have another head in the garage? i have the parts to rebuild a hole new motor. but if i did have to switch out the head where could i get a new head gasket? :? :?: :(

you can get a new gasket from Napa. I havent bought one but they gave me
one when I asked for a valve cover gasket so I know they have them. Seemed like it was pretty cheap too...

I bought one from napa and the damn thing didn't line up with the coolant channels on the #2 #4 cylinders, so I had to get another one from autozone.

Are you using the same Brand and type of plug on all cylinders. Just checking, I seen some use different brands plugs because of some reason or another.

If the hole is stripped then you can fix it with a helicoil. You will have to tap the existing hole to fit the new helicoil in. Long ago, I was impatient and tapped the plug hole with the heads still on. I pressurized the cylinder via the exhaust port (made a cheap adapter with plastic and fittings) and positioning the crank so that the exhaust valve was open. I then slowly, very slowly tapped in the new threads. Going in a little and then backing out several times. The pressurized clylinder blew all the metal shavings outwards during the procedure. This worked for me, saved me a lot of time and money, which I didn't have much of at that time.

Good luck

You've got more guts than I did, but then again I had three holes to repair so it would've been alot of work, I just pulled the head.

In doing I learned a valuable lesson. Make sure you stuff a rag or something down around the timing chain before you take out the front to head bolts, the ones that are smaller, I dropped one in the pan and had to take the whole engine apart to get it out.

i have a special tool for that, its a long rod with a magnet on the end, works like a charm, i droped the key for the timing gear and managed to fish it out

i just recently had to tear my motor down and put it back together. The Napas there In Spokane stocked the headgasket and every other one for that mater.
