is the cab on a 72 chevy luv the same exact on top of a 1980 chevy luv? :?

Well, i'm no expert (yet), but haynes says that the luv remained almost entirely unchanged except for minor styling cues (headlights, tailgate, etc) Don't use my word as the gospel, but i'd put my money on yes.

The cab will fit. The 80's frame is a little different though... motor mounts are different, different mounting for bumper.... not sure about the firewall openings on a 72... could be a little diff cause of the differences in the motor setup...

Yes and no.

Clutch mechanism is very different, cable vs hydraulic
Gauge cluster is different, tho they can be interchanged with a little wiring
Changes to the heater, styling, wiring, and duct work
Various other little bits, lap only belts, styling, etc

If you stripped both down and passed parts over to the new cab you could get them to just about match. The clutch opening in the firewall will be different, but it would take only very minor cutting/fabbing to get an opening that would work for either. The cab will fit and bolt up, but you'd have some minor changes to make all the little bits compatible.
