well i would check the fluid level in the t-case, then i would check the fluid level in your front diferential becouse if its dry it could bind and kick it out.

Hey low,
Well my 81 has never wanted to stay in 4hi, Thae shift pattern for the t-case kinda leaves it in a sloppy spot at the top between 2hi and 4lo. My lowbuck solution is a 23mm combo wrench wedged between the stick and the seat. As for the real fix I'm not sure, I think it was just an iffy design from the factory.

Mine does the same thing. I think it is the stiff shift boot on the stick. The detent spring isnt very strong either. I agree , it is a bad design. Just wedge a stick or wrench there to keep it in gear.

Putting a body lift on a LUV makes this problem much worse, especially if you don't do any cutting around the 4WD shifter. The one 4WD LUV I have that has no lift also has no problem staying in 4HI.
