I was thinking of putting a flex fan on my Luv. I think it be cheaper than a
electric fan. I heard that they have two types one that pulls air, and the other that pushes air.

Also I'm going to replace my thermostat, online I can get 2 different temperatures. One is at 180 and the other is 160. I think 180 is stock tempature. Does anyone else use the lower temp one?

When I replaced the t-stat in my 79 after it finally stuck open, it had a 160 in it. I had always wondered why the heater would never blow more than a slightly warmed breeze, where as my 77 had toasty hot air coming out. When I replaced the t-stat I put in a 180 and it finally could melt the ice off the windshield with the defroster. The temp guage only read slightly higher, tho still not up to the normal range.

The flex fan does help, and you'll want a puller. A pusher I would think would be fighting incoming air on the highway, and blowing hot engine air through the rad in traffic. I put one on my wife's 83 PUP when the one it came with (also a metal flex fan) lost a blade. The idea with a flex fan is that as more air flows over it, the blades flatten out and create less drag. So it moves a lot more air in traffic at idle, but does not rob as much HP rolling down the highway.

Another good way to go is getting a clutch fan off a Trooper or pickup with A/C. They have more and larger blades to move more air, and the clutch makes sure they only rob HP when the temp is up. I believe the fan from most 1.9L to 2.6L trucks will work, but there could be some variation. You may have to get creative and make a shorter/longer spacer.

Unless you set the motor way back you're probably not going to have room for anything but an electric. Both my v8 trucks use(d) electric fans, as most other v8 luvs do.

Image My motor sits about 3inches further forward then most, but as you can see, there is no room for anything. I am even gonna have to remove the Rad. if and when I have to replace the belt
