for the first time since i have owned my luv,(3 n 1/2 years), i got it started last sunday :D, runs rich and rough and doesnt idle, need to do the timing.

when i was setting up the fuel system i was struggling to get fuel to the carby, i took the return hose off the carby and on to the filter by-passing the carby altogether, there was a constant flowback to the tank, when i hooked it back up the the carby there was barly anything comming back? what could be causing this?

Sitting that long, I'd say junk in the tank. Old gas has a way of clogging up whatever it gets into. You could also have problems with the fuel pump. I'm fighting the same battle on a truck I've been working on lately so you're not alone. I'm getting ready to pull the tank and drain out whatever muck it has in it, probably in the next couple of days. Assuming that doesn't fix it, I'm looking at a new fuel pump next. I'll let you know how it goes.

Pour about 5 stp injector cleaners in it... see if that'll clean out your tank... (w/o the tank in the truck)

Im not quite sure I understand Noyz what your asking. Maybe I am missing something? Are you not getting fuel to the carb?

Your carby sucks. Maybe it's clogged before the bypass valve or something not lettin' gas return to the tank, or maybe it's just pouring way too much gas into the intake, (smoking and dyeing) for there to be any gas to flow back.

Pull the "Y" connector, leaving the pressure and return fuel lines connected to it, from the top of the float chamber of the carb. Then crank the engine over with the "Y" connector over a bucket. You should see a quarter inch stream come out. If you do, the carb is the problem.
