1980 LUV.
REDID THE DASH, TRIMMED OUT THE OLD CURLDED UP DASH.
Left the front round edge. Covered ALL the holes with duct tape except for the two vent holes. I used thin cardboard rolled into cones and stuffed them in the vents.. Covered viod with Tough Stuff spray foam. After an hour dry time I used my trusty handy dandy electric carving knife to trim the foam to shape, then sanded it all smooth. Pulled the instument panel, 2 side vents and the glove box to hold the new vinyl dash cover down in front. glued it down with tacky glue then tucked it all under the window rubber. Looks great , can,t tell its new unless you raelly look for little mistakes.
NOW the question.
Any ideas for the vent replacement on top of the dash?
Something that wil more or less just drop right in through the "X" slit
cat into the vinyl?
Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks

When the dash was recovered When the dash cap was recovered in vinyl, we removed the old rectangular radio/defroster vents. The vinyl now covers the entire dash. The holes for the vents are under it. Just waiting for a suitable trim cover.
I will post pics soon.
, we completly removed the old rectan

I've been thinking about this myself. I was thinking about making some vents out of aluminum. Not sure how much it would be to have them made, my guess is more than is practical...

I think I'm going to start looking through an import car catalog.
Maybe something will be of use in there.

How about wire mesh cut into a circle to just cover the openings with a square bent down tab on each side to create a friction fit. This is what I used to keep the birds out of the range hood vent from my kitchen.

Yeah! you could even make a metal frame for it that resembles the shape of the stock vent (without the speaker part) and tack it together, have it dipped and viola! custom chrome vents!

I'm going to my local car stereo store.
I'm going to ask them for some spare tweeter speaker covers.
