Post subject: Tranny. Fix or replace?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 18, 2004 11:04 am
Hi Folks. A newbie here.
I am the proud owner of a stock 77 Mikado that I bought in 1977. I now have over 200k miles on it and the tranny lost first, second and reverse. Third and fourth work fine.
Please give me your opinions on having it fixed or replaced.

TIA

Welcome to the site. It's nice to see someone else from Alabama here 8) :D . I never had the stock tranny so this is just a guess but I bet you could replace it cheaper than getting that one fixed.

I am pretty sure there is a shifting fork inside the tranny that has either broken, or come loose. You will have to remove and disassemble the tranny to fix it. Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've been lurking around here for a few days reading up on all the cool LUVs here. I had no idea they are so popular around the world.
My truck is a bit of a beater right now because of a lack of parts. Now I might be able to do some fixes thanks to this forum pointing me in the right direction for parts.
Anyone know where I can find a hood release cable?

luv355. Thanks for the Alabama welcome. I see a LUV about once a month around Bibb/Shelby county. I just missed out buying one with only 38,000 miles on it, darn it.

I had my synchros go out in my Luv reverse gear. If thats the case, parts wise it would be cheap to fix. That's if you want to pull it apart yourself or
a friend. 8)
