My truck had the same problem not too long ago. :? No fuel was being pumped out of the the tank. I tested the pump by taking off the hose from the tank and putting it into a container of gas.
Next I removed the gas tank and i used a nylon streetched over a clean metal can and then poured the gas into that. I saw some dirt and little particles caughtn on the nylon. I took out the sending unit and the metal arm has some surface rust.

So my question is do I replace my sending unit or sand it.
Also any suggestions to make sure I get all the gunk out of my tank?

You could try this:

Good luck,

Actually My tank has been boiled out before and sealer was put into it.
Also the outside is painted with POR 15.

I just want some suggestions on how flush out the crap leftover in the tank. And if I need to replace the sending unit.

I had the same problem with my sending unit. Rub some sandpaper over it to get the rust off, WD40 it, and it should be fine. The rust on the sending unit usually won't be enough to cause gas tank problems.

Most radiator shops will rod out the gas tank for a small fee (40 bucks or so), but most won't give you any warranty unless you let them put a liner in it. You could almost get a fuel cell for the same money.

JC Whitney used to sell plastic replacement tanks, but they apparantly stopped.

Well the tank was sealed in 97 or 98 so I don think the problem is with the tank unless the tube that sends the fuel out is rusted. I'm thinking I didn;t get all the crap out of it when I drained it last time (Few months ago I drianed it and ran a little clean gas and drained that..
Can I use something else to help flush it out.

You could drill a new hole in the tank and fit a new tube inside it... Just trim the bottom of the new tube to a 45 degree angle so it doesn't sit flush on the bottom of the tank.

I drained the tank and found a rubber stopper, the kind you use for a drain! I have No idea how that got there. I did flush out the thank with just water and blow dried it with a air hose.
I put some Gas Stablizer in the gas Im going to put into it.
I found out on the back it says that it helps if you have water in your tank.

The tank is back on but I still can't get gas to come out of the pickup
tube from the thank. I'm thinking I might have to take it into a shop and have it boiled out again. :x

take the gas cap off and undo the gas line at the carb and blow air through the gas line with a compressor and see if you can here it in the tank.

I blew air into the tank and now it works. Hopefully it wont jamn it up.
I took the truck about 6 miles to a gas station and it did fine.
