well i have a bit of a problem. There is a clattering sound in my engine when i hit 2000revs, but it then goes away at 3000revs. Any ideas on what could cause this? I was thinking mybe just something loose and at worst valves out of adjustment. Oh and it is still the stok 1.8L. Thanks in advence.

Are you sure its "in" your engine. Ive had a rattle or two and if I remember it was once my e brake line rubbing my exhaust, and it was also the exaust hitting the body. It seemed to like a certain rpm to scare the crud out of me. If its in the motor, one way to cure it is to put in a v8

check the tensinor on your timing chain, sounds like what mine was doing right b4 the chain broke and then bending every valve in the thing.

if its got alot of miles on it, a little slick 50 in there may not hurt either.
but id still check the timing chain too

Well its only got about 1-2,000 miles on a rebuild we replaced everything and my oil lkevel is good. But it does look a little dirty. So i might change the oil anyway, what little miles have been put on this oil change have been hard ones... hill climbing going 85 down the high way pulling full sized chevys out of mud pits...

Oh i was listening to it today on my way to school and it almost sounds like it could be an exaust leak. Did the timing chain thing sound anything like an exaust leak?

mine had an exhaust leak!!! and did basically the same thing, check the manifols if thats it, do away with the gaskets, sanddown the manifolds and heads very lightly get the junk off of em, and get some of this black crud forgot what its called but smear it all over the manifolds and put em back on works very well sometimes gaskets cause the exhaust leak, my opinion is to lose em.

sorry luv-v8 but i am gonna have to disagree with ya (no offense intended trust me) i am an airplane mechanic and i cringe at the thought of anyone tossing a gasket away and using just gasket sealer instead. i 100% agree with you about sanding the head and manifold to make a better seal surface, but when you have 2 parts bolted directly together with no material between them to take the rapid heating and cooling, they start to warp. but n e way, i would check the tensioner and the valve train for the proper adjustment.

well my dad and i are going to get the truck into the shop this weekend. Since it only does it under a load we were going to put it on jack stands and put some preasure on the e-brake and run the rear wheels while there in the air. Then just poke around the engine and find the noise. I know its hard on the rear brakes but its the only thing we could think of. Yeah my dad whos a mechanic said it sounded alot like an exaust leak so im not getting too excited about it (and even if it does blow up i just get the 350 sooner right  )

some people have different encounters but thats been my experience, (no offense taken BTW none what soever  :2gunfire: hehe j/k) the gaskets seem to become more frail and maybe just a slight nitch will come out or move a little, thats what seems to have been my deal, maybe im unlucky lol.

well it was an exaust leak. The pipe that comes off the back of the exaust amnifold blew clean out 8O . It is loud as hell and and backfires alot. So its on to the auto parts store to get a new one i guess. Anyone know how hard that pipe is to replace? :?

my jeep had a similar problem turned at the catalatic convertor was bad . just pretty much fell apart inside and would only rattle at a certain rpm. you might check that i would think a muffler could do it too. just another suggestion.

well never mind i didn't red the next page to see that you found the problem. duhhh! ben a long day. there not to bad to change just depends on how much rust and gunk is on the rest of the mounting clamps.

well i have it off only to find out that they no longer can get the EGR pipe (thats what it is). So now my question is, is it safe to just plug it off? I dont care about emmissions its already passed. Im just wondering what if any adverse effects it will have on the engine if i just plug it. Thanks
