It may be a bad and/or loose transmission/motor mount also.

Just check for worn or damaged parts, replace what you need to. Check the brake lines while your at it too. As for the drums and rotors, unless they look perfect, take them to a shop, they can check the drums for out of round, taper and wear. the discs need to be checked for flatness, that the sufaces are parallel to each other, check for runout and thickness. You can check all this yourself, but you need the tools and a manual would help.

if the clutch is going out, the engine will usually rev higher than it should on heavy acceleration

try dumping it in 3rd gear from a dead stop, if it lugs out the engine badly it's usually good, if it kinda slips in and goes you probably need a new one

alright well this weekend will be eventfull. i have my plate full with some dump runs then brake job. and a questionable clutch. but hey....thats what weekends are for. and im looking forward to every minute of it. i have a haynes or is it a chilton book....never paid much attention to the title. pretty sure its a haynes. anyways it covers a mass number of years.....79 being one of them. is there a more detailed manual i can get direct from the factory which is specific to my 79?

you can find the shop manuals on ebay pretty cheap. I got mine for like 5 bucks.

youll be bale to see scars and such on the rotors. If the look and feel flat then your probly good. Local parts stores can usually turn em for you, for not too much money. As far as your shaking problem, check out the motor mounts and such. I wasnt having this exact problem but i tore my driver side motor mount clean in two and the bell housing was hitting the body work.
