Does any one know what LUV stands for from Chevy's original brochure? I was told by a friend it meant Limited (or "light" I was thinking) Utility Vehicle. Limited.... some friend huh?

Thanks. I have to admit I also drive an f250 power stroke 8O but allways wanted a Luv and now I have one.
I actually just found a photo of my truck at http://www.chevypartspro.com then luv and then 1978. That is my truck in front of the last owners house. I'm jazzed. I've never had anything famous before.

Yes the D-max kicks ass, but i just like the inline 6 design of the Cummins. That at the Cummins 600s duty cycle is 350,000miles and has been tested for 200,000 hours of WOT at 3,000rpm 8O
But honestly im happy whith my Isuzu 4bangers...

Welcome to the site. It stands for Chevrolet Light Utility Vehicle, and I don't know if a Duramax is better than a Powerstroke, but I know I prefer a Cummins.

You know, when someone has been working on it for 100 years, ya tend to trust them!

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I figured it was light not limited. I always thought the U V part was a new term since all the SUV s have become so popular.
:!: As a matter of fact my wife's 86 suburban's insurance went up one year when they decided it was one of those SUVs. I said wait a minute... I owned this thing before they were so cool to have, I liked it for the room for kids and can tow the boat. and now everyone else jumps on the band wagon, I get hit with this SUV catagory and higher rates!?!?! Well, they said yea thats it. So oh well, I pay. :x

I have nothing but faith in the Isuzu long block. Its some of the GM and Delphi Accsesories that i wonder about. In EVERY SINGLE failure on a D-Max it has a been a GM and nothing to do whith the long block. As far as Ford Owning Cummins, that is a rummor. Ford has always worked whith International for thier light duty diesels and will continue to do so now that the 6.0L is ironed out. As far as heavy duty Fords, the Cummins is an option and comes whith an Alision tranny oddly enough (i think that is the ultimate combo there).

Yeppers, MEPR is right. Its all a rumour that Ford is going to use/own Cummins. Ford has a deal signed with International for the nest few years anyways. And last time I checked dodge wasn't letting go of the Cummins deal that easily...

Just for the record...not a big fan of the D-Max. Too quiet for me. If I buy a diesel I want it to sound like one. I know that sounds silly...but thats just me!

That rattling marbles sound is the main reason I don't care for diesels. It I wanted that I could just leave the valves on my LUV loose. ;) I like the 'zu diesel trucks, but for some reason when I think diesel I always end up thinking CAT.

Oh yeah, for those of us always working on our truck LUV means Lives Under Vehicle.
