I need someone to help me line up the steering wheel on my luv.
Its a stock '74 luv 3-spoke wheel, and it sits crucked blockin my tach
and guages. So how do you get this steering wheel off? It has a plastic
center with a bowtie in it, I dont wanna brake it, but cant see how
to get the wheel off, and my Luv manual only tells you how to do the
76 and later 2 spoke wheel. :(

Thanks guys

(383 and a 200-4R going in next month)
:D

There's gotta be a nut on the upper end of the shaft. The cover in the center of the wheel has to come off. There's puller that grips the under side of the wheel while you tighten a big bolt against of the top of the shaft. I've used a rubber mallet against the under side of the steering wheel. Some can be jerked off with your arms with your feet braced against the floor.

when i took my off it was just alot of cussing and arm strenth. i think i used alot of force pushing my legs against the firewall and using a wrench at the same time.
2 hours latey it finally popped off. i was so red and tired i thought i was going to pass out

It depends on the wheel you have. The Mikado three spoke wheel you need to pop out the round center plastic chunk. Everything from the metal ring on in to the bowtie center comes out. Get a medium to small sized flathead screwdriver and carefully work it in at the top center (or might be bottom center) and you should find sort of a keyway to pry it out. Don't worry a lot if you pick the wrong side, just be careful and it should pop out without breaking anything.

On the other hand, if you have the standard model two spoke wheel the sorta squarish center horn piece comes off. According to the book, you push it inwards, turn it counter-clockwise and it should come off. It helps to remove the battery cable first if your horn actually works since fiddling with it getting the piece off would not make you popular with the neighbors otherwise.
