I was just reading the chilton for the luv and realized that the series 5-12 are considered Hemi engines is this for real...it says in the book that the heads are of hemispherical design with transversley opposed inclined valves....so that is a hemi engine correct? Just a thought

This was discussed at one point before and I believe that the deciding factor on a motor being a "hemi" was that the spark plug was centrally located in the combustion chamber. (At least as compared to the classic Dodge Hemi motors) Still though, LUV motors do have a hemispherical shaped combustion chamber and crossflow head design.

In a classical sense, a Hemi is merely the hemispherical chamber. If you need the Spark Plug TDC, then you are a Dodge person no doubt. You get the same power from a Hemispeherical header if the plug is TDC or off center. So technically, the Isuzu engines in the LUV are Hemi's.

Dodge is just running with the Hemispherical heads like it makes a diff. When in fact, most if not all of the Hemi's require service more often than not.

Honda does not have a Hemi, and their motors go seemingly forever, whereas the Dodge engines have some problems.

But Yep, the LUV is a Hemi.
