Guys I need your help, if you live in California or know somoene that does
then I need you guys to write a short email or snailmail for me.

As law stands present, cars/trucks 30 years old do not have to be smogged. This proposed law would make models 1976 and newer should you would always have to smog your vehicle.

Vehicles 30-years old and older constitute a small portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reduction. Antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven (about one-third the miles each year of a new car). Most are owned by hobbyists.

The bill was introduced by Assemblywoman Sally Lieber (D-District 22, San Jose). I urge you to contact Assemblywoman Lieber and YOUR OWN State Assembly Member immediately to OPPOSE AB 2683. Assemblywoman Lieber's email is at:
assemblywoman.lieber@assembly.ca.gov
And YOUR legislator can be found here:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html

Thanks guys

I also would say that I would not vote for a tree hugger like her ever again.

There are two last options as I see.
Having people write into Governor "Arnold" about vetoing the Bill.

If the bill passes, there may be way of getting "Antique" plates for your Luv. I am not sure what that involves or hold old your vehicle has to be but I will look into.

B.T.w. Here is the Governors email if you want to help. Thanks! :D

you're dead right about older vehicles...i live in a town that's on the brink of having a new <<<CASINO>>>>but we only have 250 people here .16,000 new vehicles a day will be rolling through here soon and that will change oursmog rules to the 2 year checks(currently it's only when u buy a vehicle)

I'll have to junk my truck if this happens.

you have my help on this, I'll write a letter to each and I'll have my family do it too.

nobody i know wants to see my luv off the road(except the local deputy!)

thanks for the heads up zane and watch out for wingnuts down there in ucsc land

that realy sucks, they are trying to pas a thing like that in WA state as well from what i have heard. Ill be fighting this stuff all the way becouse i have tested my trucks in my auto tech class and my F-150 burns cleaner whith its performance build and my LUV runs just as clean as stock. But since no smog gear is there they fail inspection. Alot of these laws are kinda dumb. Good luck!

Got a letter back, wasnt that encouraing, but I am glad some politicans are still on our side:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to Asembly Bill 2683, which would repeal the rolling smog exemption for vehicles that are 30 or more years old. I appreeciate hearing your concerns.

One of Californias's great heritages is the classic automible- it is a part of our state identity. After all, it was in Venice, CA where Shelby-American opened shop in 1962 and produced what beam an instant cult favorite - the AC Cobra.

Over the past several years the legislature has enacted tougher and tougher emissions standars in a very laudalbe effort to crub air pollution. However, at the same time these efforts have handed more and more power to the California Air Resources Board (CARB)- a body of appointed pesrons who have no accountability to the electorate.

While AB 2683 does not necessarly give CARB further power, I am concerned that AB 2683 is a small piece of a policy that is not yet entirely written. If we pass this legislation, tow years from now I would not be suprised to see CARB push for further legislation to place harsher smog restrictions on classic cars.

Again, I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this important matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me again on any state related issues of importance to you.

Sincerly

Tim Leslie
Assemblyman, Fourth District

I'm 28 and lived in santa cruz area until Febuary 04, its very expensive to live there, so I moved up to the Auburn area (North of Sacromento).

My first Luv was 1980 2WD Long Bed I bought in 93. In '96 I bought a 1980 4wd luv for 50 bucks. It had no Carb and no alternator. Luckly before I sold the 2wd I was able to see how all the hoses went on.
Since then I have slowly restored the body and suspension and brakes.
All I have left now is the Master Cyclinder, refresh the engine, and the entrior.

Well, I just got my LUV inspected and she passed with the cracked windshield.

Did not even touch the emissions.

Said that since it is 25 years old or older, they don't even bother with the emissions because there are so few of those on the road.

The other day I saw 12 LUVs in NC. Unbelievable. 12 in one day. Ranging from a blue 73 to a 80 4X4 and two Diesel 81's.
