well here`s the deal went to work on the luv when i tried to open the door no go. both inside and out side rods are conected . i`ve played with the lock with no luck. i have the door panel off i can see the rods moving the controls on the latch so evidently it`s something inside that i can`t get to. any one have an idea on how to pop the latch with out screwing up the door? THANKS

If you don't get it open and havent recieved an answer yet I'll take a look at a door on my parts truck and see if I can come up with something.

I just replaced a latch mechanism on mine, had more of a problem with it not closing properly. I'll try to get some pics of the mech. for you so you can better see what you are dealing with. The only approach I can think of that doesn't involve drilling/hammering on stuff would be just holding up on one of the handles and trying to rattle the door back and forth. I'm sure you've tried a bit of that already, so not much help I guess. I bet something gave out in the latch mech. and isn't releasing on its own, but it could just be grunged up in there so a shot of some sort of lube (WD, pentetrant) from the inside might help free it up.

I'll go grab the loose latch I have and snap a couple shots of it. Pics soon.

well it appears that the lock has brokken internally but i can`t see any way of releasing it.the controls still pivot on the latch so its something inside the mechanism this will suck if i have to cut the door off. thanks for the help guys

I GOT IT  the locking portion on it is worn out, pulling up on the lock wasn`t enough to deactivate it. i had to stick a pry bar under one of the pivoting arms and pry up really hard while pulling on the latch. the cage and race seat didn`t make things any easier. sucks that latch worked really good too, that was the first time i had any problems with it. my day just got better now that i don`t have to tear up any body parts. later

Glad to hear you got it. Sorry I didn't get any pics, I could not immediately find the loose part I have and then got too busy today. I did think about it today and was thinking perhaps you could get it to work by adjusting the outer door latch rod so it pushed all the way as far as it could. Not much help now, but maybe the idea will help someone later who comes across this thread.
