i know this is a stupid question but is there anyway to take a shifter apart to have an extention on it i have a shifter all the way down to the joints that go into the transmission but i need to take it off so i can have an extention on the luv shifter i raped the shifter from a 1986 mazda b2000 i was just wondering if i could take it apart to have an extention on my luv anyone tell me how thanks

you could, thread the luv shifter, (if it already isnt), then take the other one, drill into the bottom, and thread the inside and screw them togeather, modding them to have a smooth transition... im not an expert and i dont know if this was a practical or good idea, but i hope it helped...

There are 4 bolts that go down into the trans that hold the shifter in. There is a sort of cap that the shifter goes through, and goes against a ball on the shifter shaft to hold it down. Unbolt that, the whole works comes loose.

It also depends on the year of your truck a bit. 78 and newer have a short little stub that comes out of the trans and the shifter handle slips on over that. 77 and older have a solid one piece metal shaft. The part on the trans that holds the shifter in place is the same, just the way the handle shaft is made is different.

i have a gear shifter now it needs to be longer so i need an extention were can i get one it has large threads and i thought the shifter might screww off but i guess not my shifer is like maybe 8 inces from the floor and i hit my hands on the heater it sucks ass is ther a solution
